The School is to Move

In March, 1940, the Education Board added the replacement of the Stratford School (Fenton Street) to their list of projected works. In 1937 the Health Department had condemned the classrooms on the southern side of the site. Although alterations were suggested, public feeling was running high. So, in 1938 the Prime minister, Rt Hon. M. J. Savage was conducted over the school by the School Committee. The Stratford Borough Council offered to exchange a portion of King Edward Park for the school site, and in 1942 they received plans for the proposed school on the Regan Street site. The exchange for the Fenton Street section for the 14 ½ acres of King Edward Park was arranged.

On March 21, 1948 the school on Regan Street was officially opened by the Minister of Education, the Hon. T.H. Coombs, after the ten years buildings had originally been condemned!
